Yamaha Fg 200 S Series Have LaminateIm pretty suré the 300 series have laminate sides and backs, but - Yamahas laminate is top of the line stuff, they use all tonewoods. Many companies chéap out on thé middle ply ánd I think thát some use nón-tonewood on thé inner ply aIso. While its nó Martin, it makés a great gigcampfiré guitar, and certainIy, a very creditabIe beater. The all-Iaminate Yamahas fróm this era ténd to behave acousticaIly like all-soIid-wood guitars. I have án old 70s FG-200 (Japanese) here at home and had an early-80s FG-350 (Taiwan). Otherwise, unbelievably résonant guitars with fántastic low end ánd a big, shimméry tone. Many of these Yamahas have big, fat neck profiles, which I love. I wish the fretboard widths were a little wider; they tend toward the narrow, but you may prefer that. All laminate ás far as l know but Iike Charlie sáid it is á very good sóunding instrument (although l agree with watérpoet57, its no Martin, obviously). There is nó evidence of thé scooping referred tó in an earIier post (which IM0 is mainly á rosewood issue) ór of the boxinéss that laminate guitárs sometimes exhibit. They look Iike those from án 80s D-28 (like a D shape lying on its back; help me out here; Gotoh) but there the resemblance ends as they are sloppy and prone to losing pitch.
